Who are you?

I used to think that I needed to be defined by things that made me up to who I was. I'm a psychic medium, I'm a healer, I'm a Mother, Daughter, Sister, Friend. Yes those things all exist but it's not who I am. We live in a society where people find it easier to connect to labels. Veganism, Omnivore, Pescatarian, Spiritualism, Gay, Lesbian, Pansexual, Black, White, Latino, Asian, Democrat, Republican, American, Canadian, Catholic, Buddhist, New Yorker, Floridian, you catch my drift.

Geez, as I'm writing this there are just so many categories and boxes that we all put ourselves in. Why? Are we defined by these things? Do we belong in these boxes that are so limiting? Although it's sometimes necessary, especially for work and business purposes to speak about what you do for work, I think it's a good idea to look at how many times you have defined yourself by labeling yourself. I want to share a story of how I came to realize this for myself.

In 2014 I had a reading with a psychic and she said I was an Indigo. I then began to read about Indigo traits and yes, it all resonated. From then on I was an Indigo. I wanted to find Indigo friends. I wanted to belong. Belonging is a huge reason why we want to fall into these categories. At least for me. Shortly after my Indigo discovery I became a Vegan. I was now an Indigo Vegan. Hardcore yes! lol. During all of this I was connecting to my Spirituality. Denouncing all organized religion. I was now a Spiritual, Indigo, Vegan. And trust me, I wasn't afraid to let the world know. Hear me ROAR!!! March of 2014 I became a certified Reiki Practitioner. In 2015 with lots of classes and hard work I became a Certified Psychic Medium & Spiritual Advisor as well as a Reiki Master, while also creating jewelry and products, and in 2016 I began doing Shamanic work. You ready for this? I was now a Reiki Master Teacher, Certified Psychic Medium, Spiritual Advisor, Shaman, Vegan, Jewelry Maker, Creative, Indigo. Now that is a mouth full. I began hating when people asked me what I did for a living. The more I learned, the more this list grew and the harder it was for me to explain who I was, and what I did for a living. I wanted to just say I was a soul who came to earth to learn and teach through my experiences. I began to dislike titles and labels, doing everything possible to smash these labels up to little pieces. I felt trapped, stuck and was becoming angry that we lived in a world that separated us.

Who are we and where do we come from? We are souls in a vehicle called a body. We come in different shades and sizes but we all reside in this vessel called a body. We live in this place called earth and we reside in different parts of this place called earth. Earth doesn't belong to us but she provides us an environment in which we are nurtured and safe if we care for her properly. We are souls that have experienced different perspectives of life and so we all have a unique way of seeing life through our individual experiences. Some of us eat meat and some of us don't. Some of us have different sexual preferences, we all have different skin tones and different body types but we are still experiencing this thing called life in this vehicle that we call a body. We just are. No matter which star system we came from, which family we came from. We are not defined by these labels. We belong because we are here.

Who am I? I just am.

Love,

Maria
